Harvey Silver

Harvey Silver is the cofounder of The Thoughtful Classroom, a national movement focused on "making students as important as standards," now a renowned professional development program. He also has pioneered a number of programs for state education departments, including the Georgia Critical Thinking Skills Program and the Kentucky Thoughtful Education Teacher Leadership Program.

Silver is the author of The Thoughtful Education Guide to Reading for Meaning (Corwin, 2009) and several educational bestsellers, including Math Tools, Grades 3-12 (Corwin, 2008), The Strategic Teacher (2007), Tools for Promoting Active, In-Depth Learning (2001)—winner of a Teacher's Award in 2004 from Learning Magazine—and So Each May Learn (2000).

Formerly a teacher and administrator at the elementary, secondary, and graduate levels, Silver has served as a trainer and consultant for hundreds of schools worldwide. He earned a doctoral degree in education from Teachers College, Columbia University.

An essential part of Silver Strong & Associates' professional development training program, the Learning Style Inventory for Students (LSIS) Resource Center is based on the work of renowned psychologist Carl Jung and provides educators with the means for understanding and working with student learning differences in their classrooms.
